Arranged by Vicente Chavarria

Palomita que vienes herida is a folksong from New Mexico; this particular variant originates
from La Jara, a mostly rural zone outside of Albuquerque. Its tale of love and loss is a common
theme among the Hispanic cultures of the American Southwest, particularly those who trace
their roots to nineteenth- and early twentieth-century Mexico. Even in its sincere, simple melody,
the song tells of the harshness of war and the loss that accompanies it. This arrangement was
commissioned by Joshua Habermann and the Santa Fe Desert Chorale in the spring of 2012 for
the celebration of the Centenary of the Statehood of New Mexico.
