Save Us, Good Lord was composed for a solemn service at Harvard, but is a piece that will suit all kinds of commemorative occasions. The singing will need to be sustained but flexible, with plenty of rise and fall as indicated. The intensity of the extended diminuendo chords should always be maintained to ensure the listener focuses on Gomes's striking and unusual English texts over the more familiar Latin words of the Requiem.
