Hildegard Magnificat was composed for the 2009 Christmas Vespers concert at Smith College. This mMagnificat setting is inspired by Hildegard's Marian antiphone Quia Ergo Femina, whose opening phrase has a memorable contour. Except for this opening phrase and one ohter, my Magnificat setting does not follow the outline of the chant melody in any systematic way, though one can hear exchoes of the opening intervals from time to time.
