While Shepherds Watched was commissioned by the Memorial Church at Harvard University for the 100th Annual Christmas Carol Services, December 2009, and premiered by the Harvard University Choir, Edward Elwyn Jones, Choirmaster. The tune is by Supply Belcher from The Harmony of Maine, 1794, and the text is by Nahum Tate, 1700. "While shepherds watched their flocks by night all seated on the ground, The angel of the Lord came down and glory shone around."
